The lesson
The first two seconds
Short video is won or lost immediately. Open with the problem or the result, never with an introduction. "Your knife is dull after two weeks — here is why" works. "Hi guys, welcome back" does not.
Keep one idea per video. A 25-45 second video answering one question outperforms a three-minute overview.
Structure
Hook (0-2s) → context (2-6s) → demonstration or explanation (6-30s) → verdict (30-40s) → call to action. The call to action should be specific: "the full comparison is in my bio", not "link in bio".
Affiliate links usually cannot be placed directly in captions. Send people to a bio link that points to your guide or list, and put the disclosure there and in the video.
Consistency and iteration
Post consistently for at least 30 days before judging anything. Look at retention and click-through, not follower count. When a video performs, make three variations of it rather than moving on to a new topic.
Real example
Video: "Three things nobody tells beginners about cheap knives" — 38 seconds, one point every ten seconds, verdict at the end, bio link to the written comparison.
It performs. You then make: "the same test after 60 days", "the mistake that ruins them", and "cheap vs mid-price".
